Found a really useful feature my ancient Mazak doesn't have- #SSV on the @haas_automation SL10. Constantly varies the spindle speed by a set amount over a set duration (100 RPM over 1 second here) to counteract harmonic chatter. As much as I enjoy a good "woodgrain brass" table leg, it is nice to be able to NOT make it that way… #CNC #fabrication #Poughkeepsie

Loving this @frelux #lux² lamp for the 1986 @mazakcorp #QT10N lathe. Awesome little pocket light from @bens.benz at #Frelux . Super simple, no frills- button clicks on high, clicks off, clicks on low, clicks off. Fits well in the hand and is unobtrusive clipped in my pocket. #Nichia #LED has a really nice, warm color temperature. I guess IG is making this less surprising, but unbelievably high quality for a product coming out of a guy's garage! Maybe some of you have been looking at the @markforged #MarkX #FDM based metal 3D printer like we have, and were not super impressed with the quality of the parts seen in photos. Well, seeing it in person makes a big difference. These printed threads are something like 1mm pitch, and they are surprisingly smooth. Part is 17-4PH #stainless steel. Time for some much needed scheduled maintenance on the 1997 #Fadal #VMC15 Original owner had to take the sheet metal apart to move the machine, and did a not so great job of sealing it back up (white acrylic caulking). I didn't have the #downtime available to do it right and have all of the parts blasted and powder coated, but at least now it won't slowly piss all over itself. #SikaFlex #15LM for the win. #CNC #Instamachinist #Brooklyn

I'm afraid to get the estimate… Machine is showing shaky, jumpy motion on all 3 axes (X, Z, & C), and this is beyond the ken of our Mazak tech. Had a fixture offset #oops on this 3/4" #aluminum plate part on the router. Fill/file/sand came out pretty well. Don't bust my balls too much about the porosity- I had to switch to a mystery electrode for a small patch on the patch, and I only had about an hour for the fix before the client picked it up… Also, it got powder coated, so now it is totally hidden ;-) #Brooklyn #fabrication

So much #brass … 1/2" Lakeshore Carbide 3fl VFA blasting the enclosure with chips. 7,500rpm 65ipm, 0.25" step over, 0.266" DOC. ~4.25 ci / min MRR. #Evolution of these knobs. Client approved the "oil rubbed bronze" one on the left, but wanted some #dark #black ones for contrast. Both are C360 #brass lightly blasted with #glass #beads . Left one is darkened with Jax "Brown" then highlighted with some #0000 steel wool. Right one is blackened with Birchwood Technologies "Antique Black Gel". Gettin' #fast and #loud with the #40k rpm Air Turbine Tools spindle, a @harveytool 75152 "runner cutter", and the #Fadal #VH65 4th axis. Material is C360, 65ipm cut ~0.020" deep with a 0.010" radius cutter. This is all "v-cut" #engraving so there is a lot of A movement. I'm pretty sure my cut speed is limited by my rotary axis accelerations now, not the tiny cutter- I'm sure I could push this thing faster. These cutters are indestructible! #VMC4020 #CNC #Brooklyn #Instamachinist

On our left, we see some 3 year old #screw #compressor #oil . On our right is the same oil, but #new from the bottle. This is some very special fully #synthetic stuff made specifically for screw compressors, but you've still gotta change it eventually… Also replaced the oil #filter and separator cartridges. The separator does exactly what it sounds like- it separates the #atomized oil back out of the compressed air before sending it to the #intercooler and then the #tank . #diy #shop #maintenance #Brooklyn
